The Jakarta Police’s traffic officers collected a kilogram of nails Wednesday which were scattered along the city’s Jl. Gatot Subroto thoroughfare in South Jakarta during a regular street inspection aimed at helping motorists avoid traffic accidents.
“This morning, we drove slowly down the street for an hour and found one kilogram of nails of various sizes,” traffic police officer Adj. Second. Insp. Ganda Aritonang said.
Ganda called on motorists to report to the city police’s Traffic Management Center immediately, through calling 021-5276001 or by text message to 1717, if they witnessed anyone pouring nails or other dangerous materials, popularly called road landmines, onto the city’s streets, so that the police could arrest the perpetrators.
The police have detected several areas that are prone to the road landmines across the capital and have deployed more personnel there.
