JAKARTA: The city’s Education Agency is targeting to fulfill a promise to supply every vocational student with a laptop by 2014, an official says.

“The laptops will be very affordable because they are assembled by vocational high school students,” Rita Aryani, head of the agency’s vocational high school division, told The Jakarta Post on Wednesday.

She said state vocational school SMK 26 had assembled its own laptops.

Some of these laptops have been given to students of various stages of education who scored the highest in the recent National Examination in the city.

Rita was speaking on the sidelines of a ceremony held to appreciate city vocational schools that were awarded medals in the 27th national Students Competency Competition for Vocational Schools in Jakarta in May.

Jakarta received the most me-dals of any competition with 18 golds, 10 silvers and three bronzes, followed by East Java and Central Java. — JP
