BANDUNG, West Java: A three-month infant, abandoned by his mother — an Indonesian domestic worker in Malaysia — died on Wednesday.

The male infant, named Rizki Wahyu Akbar, had been looked after for two days at Muhammadiyah Orphan House.

He was one of five infants sent back home from Malaysia after they were abandoned at a hospital.

The other four are now under the care of Sayap Ibu Foundation.

A babysitter at the Muhammadiyah Orphan House said that she found Rizki suffering from respiratory problems when she was going to feed him.

The infant died on his way to a hospital.

Harry Hikmat, an official from the social department in charge of social and rehabilitation services, said the baby might have been unwanted and was abandoned at the hospital.

The baby’s mother was allegedly Tri Wahyuni Waito from Palembang, South Sumatra.

“We are still seeking the where-abouts of the mother,” he said. — JP
