JAKARTA: The Jakarta Police have asked the public to be aware of a possible rise in crime rates during the 2010 World Cup.
"Lock your house before going out to watch matches in cafes or other public areas," police spokesman Sr. Comr. Boy Rafli Amar was quoted as saying Friday by news portal vivanews.com.
Boy asked the public to be vigilant, saying football euphoria made people forgetful of their surroundings and made them act recklessly.
Police have said they would intensify Internet surveillance to crack down on possible online gambling in the capital. - JP
