JEPARA, Central Java: Residents of the Karimunjawa Islands must dig deep into their pockets to buy parabolic receivers to watch live World Cup broadcasts
EPARA, Central Java: Residents of the Karimunjawa Islands must dig deep into their pockets to buy parabolic receivers to watch live World Cup broadcasts.
"We cannot receive live broadcasts without the device. I bought a receiver yesterday for Rp 2.5 million *about US$250* for the sake of soccer.
"At least my neighbors and guests at my inn can enjoy the World Cup matches live," Karimun Hotel owner Hasyim Arfani told The Jakarta Post on Friday.
The Karimunjawa Islands are home to around 10,000 people and are located 120 kilometers north of Semarang, Central Java.
Arfani said he had also requested help from Jepara Regent Hendro Martojo to buy a receiver so other residents could watch the World Cup at the district office.
Local resident Sutris Haryanta said live soccer matches could be watched on television.
"The picture will be grainy and sometimes disappear," he added. - JP
