A joint rescue team continued on Saturday their search for a South Korean teenager who went missing in a flash flood in Cikahuripan River in the West Java regency of Bogor on Tuesday.

Around 700 volunteers from the police, military, disaster mitigation agency and local people sifted the river to locate Kim Young-Sei, 14, a student of the British International School in Jakarta, who was drowned during the natural disaster.

Kim was taking part in a regular outbound at the Pancawati Outdoor Trainning (POT) in Pancawati village when the flash flood struck. A POT instructor, Ade Arvan Parlindungan, was carried away by the flood as she was tried to rescue Kim. Her body was discovered on Wednesday.

Capt. Mahfud Dwi of the Marine Corps said his personnel had dived into 10 riverbeds at a depth of up to 10 meters along Cikahuripan River, but could not find the student.

“While diving, our personnel also examined the muddy and sandy floors of the river,” Mahfud said as quoted by kompas.com.

Kim’s parents oversaw the massive search from a helicopter.

South Korean Ambassador to Indonesia Kim Ho-Young expressed gratitude to the search team and the Bogor regency administration for their endless efforts to discover the student.

The envoy said the accident would not deter South Korean people from visiting tourist resorts in Indonesia.
