Finance Minister Agus Martowardojo said he had given the National Police permission to examine four companies alleged to have bribed former tax official Gayus Tambunan.
"All requests from the (Finance Ministry's) secretary general and the director general of taxation to open tax cases have been agreed by me," Agus said at his office Monday.
The four companies alleged to have bribed Gayus are PT SAT, a shrimp-processing company in Sidoarjo, East Java; PT DAS, an oil drilling equipment rental company in Jakarta; PT EP, a national cellular phone operator; and PT ITP, a cement producer in Citeurup, West Java.
Gayus has been named a graft suspect for illegally amassing Rp 25 billion (US$2.7 million) from taxpayers.
