Bibit, Chandra to testify in Anggodo’s trial Tuesday

Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) deputy chiefs Bibit Samad Riyanto and Chandra Mara Hamzah will testify in the graft trial of businessman Anggodo Widjojo on Tuesday.

KPK spokesman Johan Budi had said prosecutors would present the two antigraft commission leaders as witnesses in the case, which evolves around Anggodo’s alleged attempts to obstruct an investigation into a corruption case involving his brother Anggoro Widjojo and to bribe investigators.

The Corruption Court has also summoned KPK director of prosecutions Ade Raharja to testify in the trial.

The Jakarta High Court recently ruled in favor of Anggodo, who had filed a pretrial motion against a decision by the Attorney General’s Office to stop an investigation into alleged extortion and abuse of power involving Bibit and Chandra. The court ruling will require the two KPK leaders to stand trial, and therefore be suspended as deputy chiefs of the antigraft body.
