President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has expressed hope the new Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) leader would be accepted by the public.

"The President said that whoever is named as the new KPK leader should be the right man in the right job to meet public expectations," presidential spokesman Julian Aldrin Pasha said Wednesday at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta, as quoted by Antara.

He said the President would leave selection of the KPK's new leader to the independent selection committee without intervention from any party.

The KPK selection committee had reportedly received 285 people aspiring to bid for the KPK top job.

Julian said that among those who had registered were Presidential Advisory Council member Jimly Asshiddiqie, Judicial Commission chairman Busyro Muqodas, former KPK official Junino Jahja and Regional Representative Council member Farouk Muhammad.

The KPK selection committee would select two figures of them before reporting to the President and the House of Representatives. The selected candidates are scheduled to undertake fit-and-proper tests before they can be named as the KPK top leader.
