State-run power company PLN is confident in ending power deficits in Sumatra, Kalimantan and eastern Indonesia by the end of June, an official says.
The three areas experience the worst power shortages in the country, meaning many residents have had to take turns in using the electricity.
“Starting June 30, Sumatra, Kalimantan and eastern Indonesian will have a sufficient supply of power. No more scheduled blackouts,” PLN’s head transmission division for eastern Indonesia Vickner Sinaga said Wednesday in Jakarta as quoted by kompas.com.
Despite the steady supply, Vickner said blackouts may still occur due to maintenance or trouble matters.
Head transmission division for western Indonesia Yanuar Hakim said blackouts often happened in some areas of northern Indonesia, Bangka-Belitung and West Kalimantan.
“However, the supply is reasonably secure for South Sumatra and Bengkulu,” he added.
