The Communication and Information Technology Ministry will work with other state institutions to prevent pornography in the media, following the circulation of sex videos allegedly featuring Indonesian celebrities.
Information Minister Tifatul Sembiring said Thursday the anti-pornography movement would involve the Research and Technology Ministry; the National Education Ministry; the National Police; the National Law Development Body (BPHP); the Press Council; the Indonesian Broadcasting Commission and (KPI) the Commission on Child Protection (KPAI).
“The House of Representatives has encouraged us to deal with the sex tape cases along with a number of other state institutions,” Tifatul told Antara news agency after a breakfast get-together with leaders of the institutions.
Attending the meeting were deputy National Police detective chief Insp. Gen. Dikdik Mulyana Arif, Press Council chief Bagir Manan and BPHP chairman Ahmad Mansyur.
Tifatul said cooperation among the institutions would protect the public, particularly children, from explicit content in the media.
“We expect the media not to misuse their press freedom but uphold mutual respect, by not blowing the sex video cases out of proportion. They need to interview educational experts and psychologists to help the public learn a lesson from the cases,” Tifatul said.
