Justice and Human Rights Minister Patrialis Akbar poured praise on law enforcement agencies for their efforts to unveil alleged irregularities in the Bank Century bailout, although they tentatively concluded that no violations of the law were found in the policy.
"I'm grateful that the law enforcement agencies found no violations of the law in the Bank Century bailout case," he said during the graduation day and 64th anniversary of the Institute of Police Science in Jakarta on Thursday.
He said the law enforcers had been entrusted with investigating officials authorized to approve the bailout, including the then Bank Indonesia governor Boediono and former finance minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati.
"Following an objective investigation, which was free from any intervention from the government, the law enforcers found no violations," said Patrialis.
The House declared the bailout flawed in early March and demanded that legal measures be taken against those responsible.
The bailout was authorized in November 2008 Mulyani and Boediono to save Indonesia from adverse impacts of the global financial crisis. The controversy centered on the fact that the bailout swelled to10 times the original estimate to Rp 7.6 trillion (US$716 million), which lawmakers suspected had been misused for political interests.
