Citizens asked to don Betawi clothes on June 22

JAKARTA: The city administration called on employees, organization members and Jakarta residents to wear kemeja sadariah (long-sleeved shirt with a collar similar to the Chinese collar) and kebaya encim (Chinese-influenced long-sleeved blouse fastened with pins) on June 22 to enliven the city's 483rd anniversary.

"We hope that all parties can contribute to the event *by wearing traditional clothes* because the anniversary belongs to all elements of Jakarta society," city secretary assistant for public welfare Mara Oloan Siregar was quoted as saying Friday by news portal beritajakarta.com. - JP
