Election commissioner must be fired: House

General Elections Commission (KPU) commissioner Andi Nurpati should be dishonorably dismissed because she has been appointed as a top Democratic Party official, said a House of Representatives spokesman Monday.
“She [Andi] was appointed as one of the leaders of a political party while also serving as a KPU commissioner. This violates the law, and therefore the KPU Honors Board must fire her,” said Chaeruman Harahap, chairman of the House’s Commission II on General Elections.
Andi’s sudden appointment will only increase public suspicions about the Democratic Party’s victory in the 2009 general elections, Chaeruman added.
“People do not just become a party top official out of the blue. We now have more questions about credibility of the last general election,” Chaeruman said.
