A fire that razed dozens of homes in densely populated Tambora subdistrict of West Jakarta on Monday morning was the eighth fire to occur in the area as of January this year.
This means on average the neighborhood has had a fire once a month, kompas.com reports.
Jakarta fire fighters’ agency’s operational chief Endang said Monday that his personnel often visited Tambora to provide information on fires and safety.
“We are really concerned about Tambora. If we had extra budget (on fire prevention), we would surely give it to this neighborhood,” Endang said.
Most residents of Tambora lead busy lives, particularly in areas with home industries.
