Flood hits 7 neighborhood units in Muara Baru

JAKARTA: Seawater swamped seven neighborhoods in two community units in Muara Baru, North Jakarta, on Friday following the collapse of a concrete embankment protecting the neighborhood from the sea.
The 3-meter-high embankment, built by state port operator PT Pelindo II, collapsed after being hit by strong tidal waves hit the wall.
A resident, Koko, said the water was knee deep in his house.
North Jakarta Mayor Bambang Sugiyono said his administration had requested Pelindo place sand bags along the collapsed embankment.
“We also told [Pelindo] to immediately rebuild the embankment,” he was quoted as saying by news portal tempointeraktif.com. — JP
