The Surabaya Police have arrested Christian Natalino H.R. Todu, 21, who allegedly began the blaze at RedBoxx nightclub at the Pakuwon Center, in Surabaya, East Java, on Friday last week.
The fire claimed 10 people and a baby.
Surabaya University student Christian was arrested at his rented room on Jl. Tenggilis Mejoyo Selatan on Monday night.
Detective chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Anom Wibowo that Christian had two motives when conducting the crime. First, he was angered when his song request was rejected. Second, he was mad at the pub’s management for casting off one of his friend’s job application.
“The suspect burned one of the pub’s sofas with a cigarette lighter,” Anom said Wednesday as quoted by tempointeraktif.com, adding that Christian shortly went home afterwards.
Anom said that Christian did not expect the fire would become causing fatalities. The suspect thought the pub’s security guards would immediately extinguish the blaze.
Christian is facing a maximum of 20 years of imprisonment if proven guilty, said Anom.
