West Sumatra holds simultaneous election Wednesday

West Sumatra held a gubernatorial and simultaneous regional elections in 13 municipalities and regencies across the province with 68 pairs of candidates Wednesday.

The provincial general election commission reported that preparation for the election, which included the distribution of an election kit for 3.31 million votes in 10,856 poll booths, was completed Tuesday.

The election was dubbed as the biggest election to be held with a total of 136 candidates. Six other provinces will also hold elections on the same date but with less candidates.

Five gubernatorial candidates compete in the election, including incumbent Marlis Rahman and his running mate Aristo Munandar. The pair is supported by the Golkar Party and the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P).
