Former justice minister Yusril Ihza Mahendra filed Thursday a criminal report against Attorney General Hendarman Supandji and special crime investigation director Arminsyah for alleged abuse of power, defamation, and unpleasant conduct.
Accompanied by his lawyers such as Teguh Samudra and Maqdir Ismail, Yusril filed the report with the National Police detective directorate to challenge the state prosecutors’ decision to name him a suspect in an online graft case.
"The Attorney General’s Office move constitutes an abuse of power. The attorney general has no legitimacy to take legal actions against me as he has never been inaugurated by the President," Yusril said.
President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono maintained Hendarman as the attorney general when he formed his second Cabinet last October.
Last week, the prosecutors named Yusril a suspect in the case, which also implicated two former director generals at the ministry and the owner and president director of the ministry’s partner company that ran the online service.
The website provided services such as the issuance of notarized acts and the registration of permits.
