House wants President submit other names for BI top post

The House of Representatives budgetting committee expects President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono to submit another candidate for the Bank Indonesia governor job other than former taxation directorate general Darmin Nasution.

"The request was submitted by a numerous legislators at the House's commission XI [on finance and banking]," the committee chairman, Golkar Party's Harry Azhar Azis, told reporters in Jakarta on Friday.

Harry said that Darmin's had an unclear legal status in the Bank Century case that needed to be clarified.

"It's going to be gambling if he is involved in the case and then be appointed the new governor," Harry said.

The Bank Century case revolves around a bailout that ten folded to Rp 6.76 trillion (US$716 million) and was authorized in November 2008 by the then finance minister, Sri Mulyani Indrawati, and then Bank Indonesia governor Boediono, now Vice President.
