Celebrating an annual National Aboriginal and Islanders’ Day Observance Committee, the Australian Embassy is hosting a week of cultural events until Sunday in Jakarta.

The event kicked off Monday with a photo exhibition by Australian Wayne Quilliam, an indigenous photographer.

The exhibition is being held at Galeri Foto Jurnalistik Antara in Central Jakarta and will last until July 18.

During the full-week event, the organizer will also present The Dreaming Stories cartoon series screening, Aboriginal traditional games, a cooking session and storytelling, as well as a cultures and arts seminar at Plaza Indonesia.

Interactions between the Aborigines and Indonesians began in the 16th century through trading activities, the organizer said in a statement.
