TANGERANG: Tangerang District Court tried 36 people for petty crimes at a hearing at Tangerang City Hall.
For their offenses, the defendants were charged between Rp 20,000 (US$2.20) and Rp 1 million.
Judge Haran Tarigan said the defendants - including street vendors, street musicians, pedicab drivers, public minivan drivers, motorcycle taxi drivers and illegal traffic wardens - were found guilty of disturbing public order in line with several city bylaws.
The judge also handed down Rp 1 million fines in absentia to two people who had violated a liquor bylaw, who had failed to show up at the hearing.
Antonius Tihadi, the head of prosecutions at the municipal Public Order Agency said the 36 people had been arrested on the weekend at several locations in a raid conducted jointly by the agency and police. - JP
