Unless I am working on the weekend, I just relax at home. I call Saturday a “me day”. I go to the salon to for a hair treatment. I also sometimes have manicure-pedicure treatments or get a body massage.
Often, I watch my son’s soccer match at school and root for him. If I have to go out for a festival, conference or a show on Sunday, I always ask permission from my family beforehand and promise to be home as soon as possible.
On Sundays I spend the whole day with my family. We do a lot of things together, watching movies, playing cards or simply going to the mall. But one thing I always do on Sundays is cook.
I really love cooking. My family says I am a “slow cook”, because I love to cook things for long periods of time such as roasted chicken.
I enjoy every minute of it. The best thing about cooking is that while I am waiting for the dish to cook I can do other things such as reading.
I love Italian food. Compared to French cuisine, Italian is much simpler. I love to browse the Internet for new recipes. I also love to try new food when I travel across the country. I try to find time during trips to find local specialties. When I go to Makassar, I set myself a target to find coto.
I also love the food from Surabaya and Malang. The last time I was in East Java to do a location survey for my new Bumi Manusia (The Earth of Mankind) film, set for production in June next year, I spent time sampling the best food in town. My family thinks I am a good cook and sometimes I invite members of my extended family to try out new recipes.
As for friends and colleagues, I still don’t have the guts to invite them. I don’t know. I’m just not confident yet.
