The House of Representatives Speaker Marzuki Alie expressed concern over the high rate of absences among members of parliament during meetings.
“We often take some time to start a meeting because available members do not meet a quorum,” he said Monday as quoted by tempointeraktif.com.
Marzuki said the lack of discipline among House members exasperated the institution's already bad image. “The undisciplined attitude has been going on for a while,” he added.
However, Marzuki refused to lay strict sanctions against members. “As stipulated in a meeting’s rules of order, I will hand over the sanction matter to party leaders,” he said.
