House to summon PLN, businesspeople over electricity rate hike

Responding to controversy surrounding the recent electricity rate increase, the House plans to invite representatives of state power utility PLN and employers associations to discuss the matter further.

“We hope to avert further public dissatisfaction and industry concern,” House of Representatives Commission VII deputy chief Zainudin Amali said Wednesday, as quoted by kompas.com.

Several business associations have reportedly leveled complaints against PLN because of unexpected increases imposed after the signing of an initial agreement.

Many businesspeople have refused to acknowledge new rate increases since PLN failed to cut zero fees for maximum and multi-purpose power usage, as it had initially agreed.

PLN has yet to eliminate these two structures, further irritating the nation’s industrial base.
