South Jakarta initiates national cycling congress

The South Jakarta municipality has announced Indonesia’s cycling congress, set to take place at the Sultan Hotel from July 16-18.

“We hope a biking committee will be organized by the congress, which can strive to improve facilities for cyclists, including a national biking day, special bicycling lanes, and overall safety improvements for bikers,” Mayor Syahrul Effendi said.

The congress’s is hoped to improve air quality by promoting alternative transportation.
Up to 200 bicycle communities are expected to attend the congress, which will also feature workshops in a number of tents in Senayan East Park.

As part of the congress around 50,000 people would ride from Senayan in South Jakarta to Kota in West Jakarta on July 18, Syahrul said.
