The Tangerang municipal administration held a community workshop on managing garbage on Wednesday. Tangerang hopes to maintain its Adipura Award, an award given by the government for sanitation achievements in Indonesia’s cities.
Up to 140 representatives from 13 districts within the municipality took part in the workshop, which aimed at making community members’ play more active roles in managing sanitation.
“I hope the participants will pass on the waste-related information provided during the workshop, and in apply the reduce-reuse-recycle concept in their neighborhoods,” Tangerang deputy mayor Arief R. Wismansyah said.
Arief said Tangerang produced 1,404 cubic meters of rubbish a day. This waste is transported on a fleet of 250 trucks to Rawa Kucing landfill near the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport.
“This is a big challenge for the administration. We need real community cooperation to help manage waste,” he said.
