BANDA ACEH: Golkar’s Advisory Board chairman, Akbar Tandjung, called on the government Wednesday to settle the Bank Century Rp 6.76 trillion bailout scandal or face adverse impacts to corruption eradication efforts.
“The Bank Century case has to be resolved at whatever cost,” he told Antara.
Akbar said a House of Representatives inquiry team had found criminal evidence and that the government was making excuses to not take the case to court.
“Legislators found lots of irregularities in the bailout and the government should have been more aggressive in handling it,” he said. The scandal implicates then Bank Indonesia governor Boediono (now Vice President) and former finance minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati. The House inquiry team found the bailout to be unjustified. — JP
