Investigators at the South Jakarta prosecutor’s office have detained top-class fashion designer Adjie Notonegoro in connection with alleged embezzlement of a diamond worth Rp 3.1 billion (around US$340,600) involving him, kompas.com reported.
Adjie’s lawyer Edy Sarwono said his client was serving his detention term at the Cipinang penitentiary in East Jakarta.
South Jakarta prosecutor’s office chief M. Yusuf said the suspect was arrested on Thursday at his assistant’s boarding house on Jl. Barito in South Jakarta.
The case evolved around Adjie’s decision to sell jewelries his friend Melvin Chandrianto Tjhin had asked him to take care of. The jewelries were sold for Rp 960 million and went to Adjie’s coffer.
Yusuf said the investigators secured evidence of the embezzlement, including certificate and documents of the diamond.
Prosecutor Dedy Soekarno said the investigators were ready to bring the suspect to court.
