Two men were burned alive as fire razed three shop-houses selling basic commodities on Jl. AMD Raya in West Pondok Kacang subdistrict, South Tangerang on Saturday.
Tangerang regency police detective chief Comr. Arif Setiawan said the charred bodies of shop employees identified as Hidayat, 25, and Asrin, 22, were evacuated to the Tangerang General Hospital for an autopsy.
“The two employees were asleep when the buildings caught fire. We are still looking into the cause of the accident,” he said.
Eye witness Marzuki said the fire began to burn one of the three shop-houses at about 5 a.m.
“The fire that started from the second floor then spread to the two other buildings next door,” he said.
At least six fire trucks from Tangerang regency and Tangerang municipality were deployed to put out the fire.
A preliminary investigation concluded that the fire was a result of short circuit, Arif said.
