JAKARTA: The House of Representatives says the monitoring committee for the Bank Century bailout investigations will intensify its activities in August.

"Under my leadership the team will accelerate again," one of the House deputy speakers, Pramono Anung from the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P), said at his office in Senayan, South Jakarta, on Monday.

Pramono is also one of the interim chairmen of the team, whose leadership is switched on a monthly basis among the four House speakers. This month, the leadership is in the hands of the Democratic Party's Marzuki Alie, who is also the House speaker.

Pramono said Marzuki's concerns in Geneva, Switzerland, had prevented him from leading the team effectively this month, thus slowing its monitoring of the investigation slower.

The case revolves around a bank bailout that increased tenfold to Rp 6.76 trillion (US$716 million). - JP
