Denpasar mayor receives family planning award

DENPASAR: President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono presented Manggala Karya Kencana Awards to Denpasar Mayor IB Rai Mantra for his achievement in revitalizing family planning in his municipality.

The award was presented during the commemoration of Family Day in Palu, southeast Sulawesi on Monday.

IG Ayu Laksmi Dharmayanti, head of Denpasar's family planning and women empowerment agency, said that the municipality has been committed to family planning to curb population problems.

Denpasar has provided necessary facilities and improved programs to allow residents access to the best services.

Family planning acceptors in Denpasar reached 12,972 persons in 2009. Up until June this year, an additional 10,752 people have joined the program. - JP
