A Golkar Party legislator threatens to propose a cut in the budget for the National Police, the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), and the Attorney General’s Office (AGO) if they continue to show a lack of seriousness in investigating the Bank Century case.

“Until this very second, we have not seen the three law enforcement institutions conduct sufficient investigations in accordance with the House of Representatives' recommendations,” Golkar’s Bambang Soesatyo said during a press conference at the House in Jakarta on Wednesday.

“If they continue to be slow in investigating the case, then we will impose a sanction by cutting down their budget, because budgeting is made based on performance. The better the performance, the better the budget,” Bambang, who is also a member of the Bank Century case investigation monitoring team, added.

The case revolves around a bailout that increased tenfold to Rp 6.76 trillion (US$716 million).

The bailout was authorized in November 2008 by the then Bank Indonesia governor, Boediono, now vice president, and former finance minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati.

Both Boediono and Mulyani said what they did was to salvage the country's banking sector amid the global financial crisis.
