Police to sterilize busway lanes next month

JAKARTA: The city administration and city police will hold a tryout to sterilize TransJakarta busway lanes as parts of efforts to ease the public transport's traffic especially during peak hours.

The tryout will be done in four corridors - corridor I (Blok M in South Jakarta to Kota in West Jakarta), corridor III (Kalideres in West Jakarta to Harmoni in Central Jakarta), corridor V (Kampung Melayu in East Jakarta to Ancol in North Jakarta) and corridor VI (Ragunan in South Jakarta and Dukuh Atas in Central Jakarta) - on Aug. 1.

The authorities will hold a public campaign from Tuesday to next Thursday.

Jakarta Traffic Police chief Sr. Comr. Pol. Condro Kirono said his office would deploy 2,359 personnels to secure the lanes during the tryout at the peak hours of between 6 to 9 a.m, and 4 to 7 p.m..

"We focus on the four corridors first. If this is fruitful, we will do the same thing to the remaining four," Condro said. - JP
