West Java councilors want new office

BANDUNG: West Java provincial legislative councilors are demanding a new building, saying that their existing space near the governor’s office is no longer adequate.

“How come the provincial legislature’s building is worse than the regent’s,” councilor Deden Darmansyah said Tuesday.

Deden said when he was a member of the regency’s legislature he had an individual office and access to reference books to support his official work.

Currently, only council faction heads have private offices while others councilors must share space at the provincial legislature building, he said.

Deden said a proposal for a new building with an estimated construction cost of Rp 60 billion (US$6.6 million) had been submitted in 2009.

Yedi Sunardi, the legislative official in charge of general affairs, said that 13 companies had tendered offers.

Provincial Development Planning Agency (Bappeda) head Deny Juanda Puradimadja said the provincial administration would start budgeting for the construction in 2011.

The administration plans to disburse funds to build four-story, 9,000-square-meter building over the next three years. — JP
