Around 800 victims of a blaze that tore through 200 houses in Pekojan, Tambora of West Jakarta, on early Sunday, have been evacuated to a nearby neighborhood unit office.
“The West Jakarta social agency and red cross (PMI) have built two makeshift tent cities and a public kitchen for those left homeless by the fire,” Tambora subdistrict deputy head Isnawa Adji said Sunday as quoted by the city’s official site, beritajakarta.com.
He said his team was still confirming victims’ identities.
A preliminary investigation concluded the fire, which hit the neighborhood at 3:30 a.m., was a result of short circuit reported the site.
Fires frequently break out in densely populated Tambora with 19 cases since January.
