JAKARTA: State Administrative Court Judge Ibrahim made an appeal during the reading of his defense plea at the Corruption Court Monday in an attempt to avoid a 12-year prison sentence that was requested by prosecutors.
There was a large disparity between the punishment requested by prosecutors in his case and punishments handed down in cases involving larger amounts of money, he said.
Allegations that he accepted a bribe that influenced his judgment are not well founded, he added.
Ibrahim is on trial for allegedly accepting a Rp 300 million (US$ 37,000) bribe from Adner Sirait, the attorney of Darianus Lungguk Sitorus, to help the businessman win a case over which Ibrahim presided. (lnd) - JP
