The police have renewed its promise to take actions against any group who perpetrates raids on other people or nightclubs in the name of religion during the Ramadan fasting month.

National Police detective chief Comr. Gen. Ito Sumardi said Tuesday people were not allowed to take the law into their own hands.

“We do not expect any group to commit raids prior to and during Ramadan. If they insist we will not hesitate to take tough actions against them,” Ito told kompas.com on the sidelines of a symposium on terrorism in Jakarta.

Previously National Police chief Gen. Bambang Hendarso Danuri had ensured there would be no raids on nightclubs and amusement centers during the Islamic fasting month, which is scheduled to start on Aug. 11. He also threatened to act against police officers who let raids happen.

Ito said citizens could file reports with the police if they found violations of moral norms during Ramadan, and let the police enforce the law.
