Graft suspect and former justice minister Yusril Ihza Mahendra met with House of Representatives Speaker Marzuki Alie at the latter’s office on Tuesday.
Yusril told reporters after the meeting he had asked Marzuki for access to all data related to the deliberation of Law No. 16/2004 on Attorney General’s Office (AGO), which he needs to prove his argument that current Attorney General Hendarman Supandji is illegitimate.
Yusril said the data was crucial, especially regarding the tenure of an attorney general.
“I remember the House and the government were split over the term of office of an attorney general,” he said.
“The House wanted an attorney general to serve for five years, while the government insisted that the AGO was an institution whose head was appointed by the President without any specific term of office,” Yusril said.
.
Yusril has been questioning the legitimacy of Hendarman at the Constitutional Court soon after the AGO named the former minister a suspect in an online graft case. Yusril insists that Hendarman’s term was over after President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono’s first administration was dissolved in 2009.
