JAYAPURA: Preparations for an election in Jayapura have been halted following an appeal by disqualified candidates, with the case currently being reviewed by the Jayapura Administrative Court.

"The court issued an instrucion on July 8 to postpone the poll," Hendrik Bleskadit, the chairman of the Jayapura General Election Commission (KPUD) said Monday.

Two candidates in the municipal election - Yulius Mambay and Thobias Solossa - are suing the KPUD for disqualifying them.

The candidates did not pass minimum requirements after they collecting less than 15 percent of support from political parties.

The voting has been rescheduled on Sept. 2. - JP
