Police arrest alleged fuel smugglers

JAKARTA: The Jakarta Police's water patrol unit announced Tuesday they had arrested five suspects for allegedly smuggling more than 4,000 liters of illegal diesel through Jakarta Bay in Muara Kamal, North Jakarta.

The five suspects were arrested early Monday by patrolling officers suspicious of the men's boat, Second Insp. Sudi Santoso, an officer in the unit, said.

"We stopped the boat and found that it was transporting 115 jerry cans each containing 35 liters of diesel fuel," Sudi said.

They planned to sell it in Kamal Muara area. - JP
