Tree collapses during rainstorm, kills two

Two people were killed and another one injured after a tree uprooted by whirlwind, fell upon them in the West Sumatra city of Padangpariaman early on Wednesday, Antara news agency reported.
 
El, 17, and Labay Patuang, 50, residents of Sicincin area died as the falling tree hit their house, Padangpariaman police chief, Adj. Sr. Comr. Eko Nugrohadi said.

El died on the spot, while Labay, a farmer, was rushed to a nearby community health post but medical workers could not save his life.
 
The health center is now treating Jusmiati, 48, who was injured in the accident.

The storm occurred for more than one hour and uprooted a number of trees in Padangpariaman. A resident, Khairul, said the strong wind was followed by heavy rains.

A number of boats were also damaged by the rainstorm.
