Former vice president Jusuf Kalla met with President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono on Thursday to discuss the series of accidents related to gas cylinders.
The reunion took place at the State Guest House in the presidential palace, starting at 10 a.m. Kalla, now chairman of the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI), said he initiated the face-to-face meeting and was warmly welcomed by the President.
“I informed the President of PMI’s plans and programs,” Kalla told kompas.com.
Kalla also offered advice on dealing with accidents related to the gas cylinders.
“I am sorry I cannot provide more details. I have conveyed my advice to the President for the government’s consideration,” Kalla said.
Kalla was deeply involved in the energy conversion policy during his tenure as vice president. The program, which began in 2007, seeks to phase out heavily subsidized kerosene by requiring millions of households to shift to gas.
