Several key legislators in the Bank Century bailout inquiry
committee protested on Thursday the appointment of Darmin Nasution as Bank
Indonesia (BI) Governor during the House of Representatives plenary session.
Golkar Party legislator Bambang Soesatyo, National Awakening
Party legislator Lily Wahid and People Conscience Party legislator Syarifuddin
Suding were those who voiced their objections over Darmin's appointment,
kompas.com reported.
Bambang said that he could not understand the reason the
House elect Darmin as BI Governor because Darmin was allegedly involved in the
Bank Century bailout scandal and other tax cases.
Meanwhile, Lily said that a central bank governor should not
have an ongoing legal problem.
"That's basic," she said.
Syarifuddin concurred with Lily and Bambang, suggesting the
House delay Darmin's appointment.
