Indonesian super featherweight fighter Roy Mukhlis is bidding to become only the country’s second World Boxing Association champion when he faces title holder Takashi Uchiyama in Saitama, Japan on Sept. 20.

Playing before his home fans, Uchiyama expressed his optimism he would defend his title for the second time.

“I will prepare myself for the fight as usual. I will learn his strengths and weaknesses,” he said.

The Japanese fighter wrested the championship belt from Juan Carlos Salgado of Mexico with a technical knock-out win in January. He defended his title for the first time by with another TKO victory over Angel Granados of Venezuela last May to improve his record to 15 wins, including 12 by way of KO.

Roy, No. 5 contender, has won 23 of his 27 fights, including 18 by KO, lost twice and drawn twice.

If he wins, he will emulate his compatriot Chris John, the defending WBA featherweight champion.
