BANDUNG: The West Java administration has purchased 41 cars at a total cost of Rp 9.2 billion for its councilors.

Council spokesman Irfan Suryanagara said the councilors deserved the cars to increase mobility in order to improve performance. The purchase was proposed by eight parties in the council.

Irfan said the previous cars were no longer roadworthy. The council had previously sought a budget of Rp 20 billion to cater for 100 members, but the proposal was rejected by Home Minister Gamawan Fauzi.

“All 94 members of the Jakarta council received new cars. We
wish all of us could as well,” Irfan said. — JP
