Mild quake struck West Java

A magnitude-5.6 earthquake struck off West Java on the early Tuesday morning, but there was no report of injuries or damage.

The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency reported the quake hit southwest of Java Island westernmost area of Ujung Kulon at 6:13 a.m. Jakarta time.

The temblor's epicenter was located at about 103 kilometers southwest of Ujung Kulon and 264 kilometers southwest of Jakarta at 18 kilometers beneath the surface.

Earlier this year, a magnitude-5.4 earthquake jolted the area.
