City awaits permit to build elevated turnpikes

The Jakarta administration is still waiting for a government regulation on toll road management it badly needs to construct six elevated inner toll roads, which are estimated to cost Rp 23 trillion (US$2.5 billion).

Governor Fauzi Bowo said although the public works minister had required the city administration to cover two thirds of the total cost of each of the elevated toll road, the government has not issued a formal regulation to support the project.

“We will join the venture in the form of equity,” Fauzi said on Wednesday.

The toll roads, to be built in phases, will connect Kampung Melayu and Kemayoran, Pasar Minggu andCasablanca, Kampung Melayu andDuri Pulo, Pulogebang and Sunter, Ulujami and Tanah Abang and Semanan and Sunter.
