URABAYA, East Java: Tri Rismaharani and Bambang Dwi Hartono were poised to win the court-ordered repeat of Surabaya's mayoral election Tuesday, according to quick counts.
The ticket, which was nominated by the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle, received 41 percent of the vote while contenders Arief Affandi and Adies Kadir captured 36 percent.
An earlier election had to be repeated after the Constitutional Court granted an appeal filed by Arief's campaign that contested Risma's victory.
Risma garnered 39 percent of the vote and Arief 35 percent in the first poll on June 2.
"Several of our supporters have shaved their heads to show their jubilation. Several survey institutions also announced our victory in the repeat ballot," Risma campaign coordinator Jagad Hariseno Jagad said. - JP
