A number of ethnic and hard-line Islamic groups infamously known for conducting raids prior to and during Ramadan in the past have committed to avoid acts of violence during the Islamic fasting month, police say.
"The Betawi Rempug Forum (FBR), the Betawi Brotherhood Forum (Forkabi) and Islamic Defenders Front (FPI) are among many others mass organizations that have declared their commitments to peace," Jakarta police spokesman Sr. Comr. Boy Rafli Amar said on Friday.
Boy said representatives of the mass organizations, entertainment and food industry and the city administration would attend a declaration of commitment to peace at the City Police Headquarters on Monday afternoon.
"If they still perpetrate raids, we will take actions against them on the ground that they commit crimes," he said. (rch)
